Aberdare is a town in South Wales situated about 22
miles from Cardiff. Located in the Cynon Valley
the club shares its headquarters with Aberdare
Rugby Club. The club plays all its home games at the
Ynys Stadium which is adjacent to the Michael Sobell
Sports Centre. Three Saturday XI’s are run. The
1st XI play in the Fourth Division of the South Wales
Cricket Association, the 2nd XI in the Reserve League
and the 3rd XI in the Glamorgan and Gwent Conference.
The club was founded in 1969. Despite little on field
success the club strives to improve its standing in local
cricketing circles. The 1st XI gained promotion from
Division 5 in 1995 and finished third in Division 4 in
both of the last two seasons where a mixture of bad
weather in 1996 and an unusual loss of form in the run
in last season contrived to keep us down.
Several promising juniors were introduced in last season,
Javed Ahsan, Gwyn Myring and Chris Harman all performed
with skill and maturity. However the club enter 1998 in
a apprehensive frame of mind due to a combination of
players leaving, being unavailable due to exmas and
numerous other factors. However I am sure the club will
be up there battling it out come August.
These pages are going to record the 1998 season of the
club, beginning with the first Committee meeting
of the year, all games played by the 1st XI and other
notable events. It may well be done tongue in cheek
but we are sure that anyone who reads the page
will sympathize withthe trials, tribulations
and (hopefully) successes that we go through
during the season ahead.
1996 and 1997 were both so near yet so far, perhaps 98
will be our year.
There are several fully qualified coaches within
the club who run coaching/practice sessions for
junior players of various age groups.
The club ran teams at U-13 and U-15 in 1997 who
played in the Mid Glamorgan Junior Cricket
League.
In 1998 the U-15's are hoping to play in the
South Wales Cricket Association Junior League
